Preparing Post-Sanction Investment and Trade
15-16 October 2014, Grosvenor Square Hotel, London
The 1st Europe-Iran Forum was held in London on 15-16 October 2014. The conference attracted over 200 senior business executives and policy makers from Iran and Europe to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented in Iran’s valuable and largely untapped market.
Dr. Pari Namazie, CEO The Simorgh presented on the panel, “How can Iran and Europe benefit from mutual cooperation and their respective qualified talent pools?”. She discussed the Iranian Human Resource base and talent pool, covering both the strengths and opportunities of the Iranian talent pool but also threats and challenges ahead for businesses.
She argued that the Iranian talent pool are young, educated and thirsty for knowledge, but they lack skills and have been disconnected from an international business environment. Challenges of working with the Iranian talent pool will be skills shortages, cultural differences, retention and motivation caused by high inflation, unemployment and economic and social problems. Companies should in invest in implementing transparent and well communicated HR policies and practices and in learning and development. Iranian managers and staff will learn fast and give good long term results. The challenge in the next decade will be to develop global managers to lead Iranian companies into the international and global business spheres. The Iranian diaspora can also play an instrumental role in helping Iranian managers grow and become more international and indeed global.
