Dr. Alexander Schwartz is a consultant focusing on business development and strategy. He has more than 10 years of experience in this sector, and is partner of ARACON Consulting which specializes in international business development services. From 2002 to 2010, Alexander was working as a core member of the industrial biotechnology practitioner group and of the bio-systems group in McKinsey’s climate change practice. Over the years he was engaged in studies concerned with business development, R&D strategy and organization. Prior to joining McKinsey, Alexander was a postdoctoral fellow with George M. Whitesides at the Department of Chemistry and Chemical Biology at Harvard University. His research areas were nanotechnology, surface chemistry and fluid mechanics. He was also a visiting researcher at ETH Zurich where he worked on hydrocarbon chemistry, and has done various projects in Europe, the US, Middle East and China dealing with strategy, business development, market & value chain analysis, and M&A. Alexander holds a PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Vienna and a MS in chemistry from the technical University of Graz, Austria, and was graduated with permission of the dean 2 semesters below the normally required minimum time and graduated from both schools with distinction. Alexander is the President of the Harvard Club of Austria.
